Catholic Social Doctrine & the Lay Apostolate

The greatest commandment is love of God, but love of God also entails a concern for justice for our neighbour. In the words of the prophet Micah, Christians are called “to do justice, and to love kindness” (Micah 6:8). This course offers a survey of key themes from Catholic Social Doctrine, with practical applications to key areas of this age.

About Chris O’Hara – Hello all, my name is Chris O’Hara. I grew up in Halifax, but spent a number of years working in western Canada at St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission, a gap-year style program for young adults seeking depth of faith formation and a diploma in Catholic studies. I now live in Halifax with my wife Becca, and I work at the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth in the Office of Pastoral Life and New Evangelization. As a team we provide resources and support to the people & parishes of the diocese to help bring about parish renewal and increase our efforts towards the New Evangelization.

Who's This For?

Each spring, St. Therese Institute hosts a series of week-long Spring Courses that are open for public registration. Register for your choice of course for one week, or register for multiple weeks and take one course each week. These weeks provide vibrant, relevant courses for anyone that wants to live a deeply Christian life in the context of our post-Christian society. You have the opportunity to journey, eat meals, recreate, pray, and live alongside those in our nine-month Gap Year, Mission Year and Apostolic Year formation programs. You are welcome to book accommodation and stay overnight at the institute or to commute if you live nearby. Certificates are awarded upon the completion of each course.
